What it Takes for a Successful Crossflow Filtration

For Successful Crossflow Filtration

The following items ensure a successful and environmentally responsible filtration process. We are available to provide guidance and support as needed, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We are here to help you achieve the best possible outcome. Your success is our priority, and we're here to assist you every step of the way.

Electrical Service

It's important to have the following electrical specifications in place at your location: a 3 Phase, 240V AC power supply with a capacity of 30 amp service or a bottling truck disconnect. Generators vary, contact us for generator requirements.

These requirements are essential for the efficient and reliable operation of the filtration system. Should you have any questions or require further assistance regarding these electrical needs, please feel free to contact us, and we'll be more than happy to assist you.

Clean & Hot Water

To facilitate the Crossflow filtration at your location, it's imperative to ensure specific water requirements are met; a consistent source of clean, solid-free water without interruptions, with a preference for softened or de-ionized water.

Additionally, hot water exceeding 130 degrees Fahrenheit may be necessary for cleaning purposes. Depending on your product, onsite cleaning may be required to maintain the system's optimal performance.

Product Preparation

To ensure optimal results, please ensure that your wine or cider are free from fining agents such as bentonite, active charcoal, PVPP, and gum arabic prior to filtration. These agents, if present, can potentially cause permanent damage to our filter membranes.

Optimal wine turbidity prior to filtration is less than 50 NTU.

Optimal cider turbidity prior to filtration is less than 200 NTU.

Equipment

Arrange for an inert gas of your choice to create an oxygen barrier within the cross flow microfiltration unit's process piping. This step plays a vital role in maintaining the quality and integrity of the filtration process.

Have on hand the necessary process and filtrate hoses, as well as any other essential wine handling equipment.

Waste Water

Crossflow filtration will generate waste water containing wine or cider residue. Additionally, equipment cleaning procedures will produce waste water containing residues along with alkaline and acid cleaning chemicals. The standard practice is to dispose of these wastes into your on-site waste water drainage system. Please ensure the proper and compliant method of disposal of these waste materials is available.

Timing

Factors that may affect the rate at which cross flow filters perform may include: wine or cider temperature, clarity, concentration of solids, osmotic pressure, winery water quality. Some timing factors cannot be determined until filtration has been set-up and is in process.
